A family of four walking hand-in-hand on a dirt trail through a forest with autumn-colored trees.

I’m Alicia, mom of two, and the founder of
The Borrowed Nest.
I started this space because I really wanted to help families spend more time reading together, connecting, and celebrating the stories they love. Reading a full chapter book with your kids can feel like a big win!
Because sometimes it is a challenge to stick with it.
Life gets busy, attention spans wander, and it doesn’t always go as planned.
That’s why I believe it’s worth celebrating when you do finish a book together.

You’ve read the book, now it’s time to celebrate!

The Borrowed Nest offers book club celebration guides.
Done-for-you PDFs filled with themed recipes, crafts, games, discussion questions, and more to help you mark the end of a story with connection, creativity, and fun.

This isn’t a study guide or another lesson plan. It’s a tool to help you make memories. Whether you're celebrating at home or gathering with friends, everything’s already planned out so you can just print and go (or delegate!).
Making it easy to enjoy the moment and create something your kids will remember.

How The Nest Took Flight

It all started when I began reading chapter books like The BFG and Mr. Popper’s Penguins to my kids, who were only 4 and 1 at the time. I didn’t expect them to be so captivated, but they were hooked from the very first chapters. They asked questions like, “What’s going to happen next?” and when we turned the final page, we found ourselves wishing the story wasn’t over. We missed the characters. We wanted more.

So I decided to keep the magic going. We made Frobscottle and Snozzcumbers, crafted dream bottles, and turned storytime into a celebration. That’s where this little tradition began, turning beloved books into full on experiences.

Since then, I haven’t stopped creating mini book celebrations for my kids. And more recently, we’ve started sharing the fun with friends. Hosting book club-style parties has deepened our kids’ friendships, sparked their imaginations, and brought us moms so much joy, too. Watching these memories unfold has been the most unexpected and beautiful gift.

The Borrowed Nest was born from those early days of wonder. It’s my way of helping other families bring stories to life and create lasting connections through books, play, and celebration.
